Work Your Love Master Class

"Work You Love" - A Master Class in the Making

Kitty Boitnott, Ph.D., NBCT, RScP

You have heard me ruminating over the last few weeks about the difference between making a living and making a life. I have been thinking about that a lot.

I have also been thinking about the importance of finding (or creating) the job or career of your dreams.

I have shared what I believe might be the regrets my father would have if he were here to talk about them.

And I have referenced what I think some of my mom's regrets would be if she could share now from the beyond.

I really don't have a clue what either of them would tell me. I might be wrong about both of them.

But this much I know for sure:  Life is simply too short to spend a single day of it doing something you don't love.

That is why I have been so fascinated with Jeff Goins' latest book, Real Artists Don't Starve.  It is why I have been promoting the latest offering from Ryan Eliason who has created a step-by-step business plan for those who are ready to create a vision for impacting the world in a meaningful way and do it with integrity and in abundance.

I believe these young guys are on to something.

But they aren't the only ones. Many people have decided that the old model of getting a 9-5 job in an impersonal work environment where the bottom line is all about making other people lots of money while scraping by on a limited salary is not for them.

In fact, I came to the conclusion four years ago that I needed to be my own boss which is why I built this business. I wanted to be of service to people who needed my help, but I wanted to do it on my own terms.

In preparing my newest program, I have stumbled across some fairly startling statistics.

For example, according to the software company, Intuit, by 2020, more than 40% of the American workforce (or 60 million people) will be freelancers, contractors, and temp workers.

Also by 2020, one in 6 Americans will be 65 or older. And they aren't following the traditional route of retiring completely from the workforce. Many of them will continue to work part time or full time for as long as they can.

By 2022, the number of small and personal businesses in the United States alone will be more than 7 million. Full time, full benefit jobs are going to be more and more difficult to find.

Does any of this resonate with you? It does with me. In fact, it reminds me of the quote from the Korean artist, Nam June Paik, "The future is now."

So where do you see yourself in five years? Where will you be in 2025? What about in 2040?

It is time to think about creating the future you want NOW.

That is why I urge you to think about where you are as opposed to where you want to be.

It is not enough to float along and wait to see what the future will bring. If the future is, indeed, "now," you need to be creating it now.

Do you have an idea for a business you would like to start?

Have you thought of becoming a coach? A writer? A painter?

Do you have a gift you want to share with the world before you leave it? What do you want your legacy to be?

These are important questions to ask yourself, but more importantly, they are important questions to answer for yourself.

There is no time like now to plan for where you want to be.

Take a look at Ryan Eliason's program, and if it isn't for you, plan to join me next week for a new Master Class entitled "Work You Love:  How to Create the Job or Career of Your Dreams."

I would love it if you joined me. I am offering it on three occasions. The first will be Thursday, July 6 at 7:00 pm EDT. The second will be Saturday, July 8 at 11:00 am EDT. And the third will be Tuesday, July 11 at 7:00 pm EDT.

I hope you will join me.

I also invite you to think about Ryan's program, especially if you already have an idea for a new business and you want an expert to help you decide how to make it happen.
